Fashion and clothing can be “a tool for self-expression, living your values and having a positive impact on our planet.” Rework Revolution by Pattern Nation

In the previous April 5th blogpost, we discussed UPCYCLING and it’s history. Then, on Friday, April 18th, SeeChangemakers had the privilege of talking with Pattern Nation’s Founder and multi-dimensional artist and designer, Cyd Eva. The interview went live on Facebook at 1:30 p.m.
Living Life as an Artist and Designer
Cyd and I discussed who makes up Pattern Nation which is her husband, Costa Besta and childhood best friend, Brianna (Mend the Spirit) Klassen. Plus, she elaborated on how they all came together and why. During her artist residency in South Africa, a friend of hers brought her down to Durban. Listen to the video to find out what happened next.
We also discussed their presence on the fashion, arts and music scene in South Africa, Vancouver, Coquitlam and Victoria. We talked about their recent showings at African Fashion Week plus Victoria’s Eco Fashion week. During the display of the Youtube Video, Cyd guides us through the construction of some of the upcycled pieces.
Bridging through Community Building
In Part 2, we discussed Pattern Nation’s community building and educational projects such as their workshops and gatherings. We talked about how these events create and embody safe spaces for everyone which includes all ages and genders such as LGBTQ+2. Where does she see our future with regard to this topic? Watch now.
Part 3 or the finale of the interview ended with a reminder of the upcoming “No Shoes AMA House” event that takes place on MAY 2nd from 5-9pm at Evergreen Cultural Center. The address is: 1205 Pinetree Wy, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7Z4
In this last segment, Cyd ponders thoughts on where they would like to see Pattern Nation go in the coming years. What’s in store for this dynamic team of artists? The possibilities are endless.
