Hammond Forever House

What makes your world go round?

Back in 1986, my first daughter was born. During that year, Vancouver hosted Expo. My world was suddenly brought into full view. Changes in my lifestyle ignited a new sense of responsibility to more than just myself. I knew now, I had to think about her future. This is what started my passion and concern for the environment and the planet.
Cloth diapers and recycling were part of an everyday routine. Yet, in that era, there wasn’t a wide array of technologies that we have now. Computers were still clunky and solar panels were being uninstalled from the White House during the Reagan administration. However, environmental consciousness was still on the rise.
Years later, I recall my father, a builder, talking about geothermal heating. He was in the process of installing this in one of his housing contracts. I asked him how it works and how much it cost. Shortly after this, he was doing another contract that involved in-floor heating with hot water. These experiences opened my eyes to other ways on how to be environmentally conscious.

In this episode, we will explore a working family’s struggles and successes to get their 1923 Heritage home in today’s environmental standards.

We are so happy to introduce you to James Rowley and his wife, Leanne. They are advocates for the environment. They have been embarking on a heartfelt green renovation project called The Hammond Forever House. Come along with us as we discuss the endeavors of greening their grandfather’s 1923 heritage home.

James has some good advice for anyone wanting to do ECO upgrades or retrofitting an older home. Tune into this extended PODCAST to get more tips and tricks that James and Leanna learned during their process. Also, find an in-depth account of these last five years of this construction process from an environmental perspective on their BLOG.

As well at the Hammond Forever House blog, James and Leanne share their information from the energy audit they received in an 11 page PDF supplied by the House Whisperers, Plus you will also find images of building plans plus videos and photos of the different stages of the process.
